Another medical marijuana farm is coming to Hunterdon County

ALEXANDRIA – The New Jersey Cannabis Regulatory Commission has approved a permit for a medical cannabis farm and manufacturing facility to operate in the township.

Altus New Jersey, which has also been granted a permit by the state commission to open a medical marijuana dispensary at The Shoppes at Flemington off the Flemington Circle, has been approved from the growing and manufacturing facility at 26 Airport Road off Mechelin Corner Road.

“We look forward to what will hopefully become a meaningful and long lasting relationship between Altus and Alexandria,” Michael McQueeny, counsel for Altus, wrote to the township last month.

The Township Committee passed a resolution on Nov. 8 supporting the proposed facility which will only grow marijuana for medical use, not recreational use.

The township “believes it will provide a positive benefit to the community in terms of, but not limited to, job creation and the use of local vendors for ongoing operational needs,” the resolution states.

The township’s land use board was scheduled Thursday evening to discuss zoning for the facility.

Altus would still have to receive site plan approval from the land use board once a zoning ordinance was adopted and formal plans for the greenhouse are submitted

Standard Farms, which is now part of Altus, first came to the township in 2018 asking for support of the facility which the township gave in 2018 and 2019.

But Altus’ application to open the facility was delayed by litigation by 14 months and in that time, state voters approved legalization of marijuana for adult use.

The dispensary in Flemington would be the first in Hunterdon County and could open in three to four months.
