It wasn't banned for it's mind altering properties or it's 'negative effects' on health. Hemp was the target as it stood to kill trillions in profits for oil, cotton, and timber. Follow the money.
90% of traffic fatalities involving a driver using marijuana, marijuana wasn't the cause of the crash. Other factors like alcohol, other more toxic drugs, speed and reckless driving were key factors in fatal crashes involving marijuana.
Both the police and AAA car insurance who are leading the fight to harshly punish drivers with fines have financial incentive to do so. Police get more revenue and AAA gets to raise premiums on everyone.
If a higher percent of the driving population wears diapers and that correlates to more driving on diaper accidents, does that mean the diapers are responsible?
There's a strong indication that using sugar before driving increases the risk of a traffic accident. I seen marijuana driving studies, many people drive better, many people drive worse, but only slightly.
Regardless driving on marijuana effects driving less than any prescription pain reliever and any legal punishment should be significantly less than alcohol.
