AZ 1st year of recreational marijuana takes in $215M in tax revenue

Proponents of Arizona’s initiative to legalize adult-use cannabis said that it would give state tax revenue a boost.

The state finally has a year’s worth of sales to see how that has played out.

The state took in more than $215 million last year on combined taxes of both adult use and medical marijuana.

The money goes toward community colleges, law enforcement, public health and criminal justice programs.

Arizona’s 26 social equity licenses, which will go to communities impacted by previous marijuana laws, have not yet been awarded.

Although delays are possible, they could be awarded through a random drawing this spring.
