Chris Scott and Matt Finch discuss the concept of drinking alone. They dive into areas surrounding this topic such as the dangers of drinking alone, if drinking alone makes you an alcoholic, and resources for overcoming alcoholism.
I am a mainland Chinese. When a kid, I was taught in school that Karl Marx is the founding father of communism. He is having some health problems at later age due to hardworking and malnutrition. But in the text book, they never mentioned Karl Marx is an alcoholism. I search today on wiki I found following… I am shocked. Shocked π² Although Karl Marx had drunk alcohol before he joined the Trier Tavern Club drinking society in the 1830s, after he had joined the club he began to drink more heavily and continued to do so throughout his whole life. Marx was afflicted by poor health (what he himself described as "the wretchedness of existence") and various authors have sought to describe and explain it. His biographer Werner Blumenberg attributed it to liver and gall problems which Marx had in 1849 and from which he was never afterward free, exacerbated by an unsuitable lifestyle. The attacks often came with headaches, eye inflammation, neuralgia in the head, and rheumatic pains. A serious nervous disorder appeared in 1877 and protracted insomnia was a consequence, which Marx fought with narcotics. The illness was aggravated by excessive nocturnal work and faulty diet. Marx was fond of highly seasoned dishes, smoked fish, caviare, pickled cucumbers, "none of which are good for liver patients", but he also liked wine and liqueurs and smoked an enormous amount "and since he had no money, it was usually bad-quality cigars". From 1863, Marx complained a lot about boils: "These are very frequent with liver patients and may be due to the same causes". The abscesses were so bad that Marx could neither sit nor work upright. According to Blumenberg, Marx's irritability is often found in liver patients.
This is a very good look at isolation and solitary drinking. I've been living sober for almost 6 years, and I was an active alcoholic for 23 plus years! In the last decade of my drinking history all of my drinking was done alone. In that isolation my drinking progressed into an uncontrollable animal. For me, it became the only gratification I had (ironically). I appreciate the Podcast and your insights. Keep on keepin on, one day at a time.
4:18 Oh wow, I knew about gaba transmitters, but had always missed somehow the info on glutamate whin researching alcohol use and it's effects on the brain. Thank you so much, this info gave me much realization about my own symptoms!! Been on and off the wagon during the last year, and now I feel like I got the motivation and passion to try quitting again. Thank you so very much once more, Chris, for all this valuable information.
thanks for informing me about naltrexone. im gonna ask my doctor about it. ive been on acamprosate and disulfiram and it didnt work. disulfiram basically took away my choice which i didnt like. i was sober for 18 months because a family member basically watched me take it every day. soooo i just started messing around with hard drugs. i needed something to completely change my mindset so im hopeful naltrexone can do that
Great conversation and insight. I love that you point out that people drink alone all the time in movies. That was my crutch initially. Movies totally normalize people coming home and having a drink of wine or a cocktail. I allowed that to normalize it in my mind too even though while growing up, I never witnessed this behaviour from anyone in my life.
Iβm single and live away from my family and friends. I drink alone in the evening because I am alone……..Iβm doing yoga and meditation to try to reduce my alcohol use. Praying I can reduce my use. Iβm going to try more vitamins.
I definitely drank more as a single guy in these communist lockdowns. Half to two thirds of a bottle of red a night. I got in a really dark place. Booze led to porn and I was drowning in shame and despondency. Almost 4 months sober, no porn. Amazing how things have turned around since I went cold turkey.
Nice! This is great guys, I'm a couple weeks in this channel has really brought some insights, very helpful. This was the way 95 percent of my drinking manifested, so I get this video deeply! Stay cool Matt and Chris! Superheroes /m/

Awesome Video. Holy GOD Bless You Both.

I only drink alone and it sunk me in chronic alcohol use. Iβm breaking the chain, my liver is already compromised

You both look great! I wish I had the strength to break up with alcohol, too.
How does NyQuil affect sleep quality?
Please donβt tell people they can drink again occasionally. Terrible advice.

Dangerous, destructive behaviour
