Two Oklahoma men and another man are facing drug distribution charges after a large quantity of marijuana was found in their vehicle in Chetopa.
The three men charged are Jeremy S. Henshaw, 33, Jeffery J.W. Adams, 23, both of Vinita, Oklahoma, and David E. Lee, 48, no address listed.
They were arrested early Feb. 18 after a car chase that began in Oklahoma ended with their car crashing at Chetopa.
According to the probable cause affidavit filed in Leeās case, Oklahoma authorities were involved in a car chase and at 3:14 a.m. Feb. 18 Chetopa police joined the chase near 2000 Road on U.S. 59.
The occupants in the gray Buick were suspected of brandishing firearms at a motel in Vinita, Oklahoma.
The Chetopa officer clocked the Buick at 100 mph northbound on U.S. 59 heading to Chetopa and pursued. The vehicle turned east on Plum at least at 50 mph and turned south on Willow, which dead ends at Cherry Street. The Buickās driver could not stop at Cherry. The vehicle left the road and struck trees. Henshaw and Adams left the vehicle and Lee got out of the vehicle and surrendered. Adams and Henshaw were arrested soon after.
A Chetopa police officer smelled marijuana in the vehicle and saw on the driverās floorboard a large scale and a container that appeared to have a white crystalline substance in it, according to the affidavit.
A search of the vehicle turned up drug paraphernalia, 9 mm shells, three large bags of marijuana weighing more than 10 pounds and an AR-556 rifle with two 30-round clips.
The officer found the marijuana to be packaged for sale, the affidavit said.
Some marijuana was in mason jars and in larger bags.
All three men are charged in Labette County District Court with distribution of between 450 grams and 30 kilos marijuana.
This is a level two drug felony that can be punished by a minimum prison term of 92 months upon conviction.
All three are also charged with possession of methamphetamine, a felony, and possession of drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor. Henshaw, the suspected driver, is also charged with criminal possession of a firearm, fleeing and eluding and interfering with a law officer, all felonies.
He also faces three misdemeanors and a traffic infraction for speeding. Adams also faces a felony charge of interfering with a law officer.
Henshaw will return to court on April 1. He remains jailed on a $30,000 bond.
Adams returns to court on March 22. He remains jailed on a $25,000 bond.
Lee will return to court on April 27. He remains jailed on a $10,000 bond.
