Search of home in Louisiana uncovers large amount of synthetic marijuana, over 2,500 ecstasy pills and more

VERMILLION PARISH, La. (BRPROUD) – Thomas Jenkins III, 51, of Donaldsonville and Coutrney Davis, 33, of Maurice were arrested after a narcotics investigation involving the Maurice Police Department and Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Four days ago, the Maurice Police Department requested help with this investigation from the Vermilion Municipal and Sheriff’s Narcotics Task Force.

The results of that investigation are spelled out below.

“While Officer Frankie Brooks was conducting a traffic stop on John Michael Road in Maurice, the driver continued until he pulled into a residence off of Michael John Road (which was later identified as his residence),” according to the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Officer Brooks observed the driver get out of the car and the passenger try to get rid of something.

That something turned out to be a backpack.

VPSO says, “Officer Brooks located a large amount of possible synthetic marijuana and several multicolored pills in Ziplock bags.”

That is when the Vermilion Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Task Force sprung into action.

A search of the home referenced earlier uncovered a large amount of drugs and money.

These items were seized during the search:

  • Approximately 6 pounds of synthetic marijuana
  • More than 2,500 ecstasy pills
  • $1,978.00 in suspected drug proceed currency
  • Drug paraphernalia

Thomas Jenkins III is facing these charges, Possession with intent to distribute Synthetic marijuana and Possession with the intent to distribute MDMA, Ecstasy.

Coutrney Davis is charged with Possession with the intent to distribute Synthetic Marijuana, Transaction involving drug proceeds and Possession of drug paraphernalia.

There are also unidentified juveniles who were charged in this case.

“This is another great example of law enforcement working together on the streets. This united effort allowed the investigation to find more of the dangerous synthetic marijuana. The term “synthetic marijuana” is very misleading because the actual substance has nothing to do with marijuana except in appearance only. This is a highly toxic and dangerous drug that uses chemicals which induce psychotic episodes to the user and sometimes includes death. I am encouraged when I see this kind of teamwork in the never-ending battle against illegal drugs”, said the Sheriff Mike Couvillon.
