  1. I’m happy to see you after long time. I was very busy having driving lessons, finally I am driving in New York. I am from Cuenca- Ecuador , and Haven’t been in my country for four years. I had my ticket to fly to Ecuador in August 2020, but Covid-19 was really scared. I canceled.
I am going to try next year 2023
I wish the best luck in your new place. Keep safe, thank you for your wonderful videos! I love your happiness. Both of you look amazing like four years ago.

  2. Question concerning the orchestra in Cuenca: I participate with the orchestra in Riobamba. I am not a professional musician, but played cello all my life. I moved here to volunteer. It's a young very active (in teaching orchestra). Additionally, we have begun a project to start a new orchestra in a neighboring indigenous community with donated stringed instruments (from the US). The principal cellist in the Cuenca Symphony (Venezuelan) is a friend of mine. I can ask him for you if you message me. But my impression is that musicians are welcome everywhere. I know of a gringo cellist once in the National Symphony in Quito.

  3. Hey Unconventionals, last time I saw you, you really destroyed my hopes & dreams. Not your fault, of course, but having to hear that after 2 years of hoping, planning & dreaming of Ecuador, they raised the monetary requirements beyond my means, just left me crestfallen. Luckily, I didn't unsubscribe to your channel, as I just didn't have the heart to do it. Now, watching this yesterday by pure chance, you saying Peru only requires $800 really lit up my day. However, in your reply to my post back then, you said it were $1,000 for Peru. So, what is it now? Please, let me know. Should it be $800, I could start planning again. So, why don't you go to Peru before going to Panama (nudge, nudge), and give us all whatever we need to know. In fact, of all the YT channels on this subject, yours is the only one I fully trust & rely on. My sincerest thanks for your fantastic work, yours truly. Mike

  4. Amelia you would enjoy going to Uruguay but avoid winter. I born in Montevideo and live in Boston, USA and eventhoug the winters here are harsh in Uruguay are humid, and not fun. But in contrast Uruguay has more sunny days and less cold days than New England. No mountains in Uruguay neither, but I love my Uruguay anyways. Living in Uruguay my dream was going to visit Costa Rica and definitly I felt in love with its nature;)

  5. So sorry I missed the live event. I'll have to watch the whole thing when I have time. My girlfriend and I are flying to Quito the first week of April to celebrate her father's birthday. Anyhow, I am looking for wedding/engagement rings and I am curious how the prices compare to the US. Thanks so much! Really enjoy your videos.

  6. You two should consider staying temporarily in Tulcan. It is the best of both worlds for groceries because of Ipiales. I lived there for 2 years and a nearby town for 2 years. Tulcan has a 100 year old wood fired brick oven panaderia that has better bread than every typical Ecuadorian bakery. (at 10:00 a.m. the first batch of 6 different types (pan de sal) is finished warm and amazing. It is a little colder but you can find amazing value in apartments. Mercado Cepia is new clean and has refrigeration for meats 🙂

  7. I had a dream you left Ecuador then I saw this post about you leaving Manta. Hope you find the ideal spot in Ecuador. Moving is a good thing! That's how you figure out what you really like and want. Sorry you have to be concerned about privacy issues. I hope it's not that bad.

  8. I’m rally glad you are going to visit Panama. Boquete in the mountains, Bocas del Toro on the Caribbean side, and the Pacific Coast, too! It’s been my number one expat retirement location and Ecuador number two. I look forward to your thoughts!

  9. What are the new retirement visa requirements for Ecuador? Did you did do a video about that? Also Colombia is still affordable for most for retirement visas. However, the level is based on a formula of a multiple of minimum wage so that along with the exchange rate means its hard to say the exact dollar amount. But last time I checked it was well under 1000 usd

  10. I think you made the right decision to leave Manta. It looked very impersonal to me with all those modern high rises. I was sorry to see you leave Olon, a much more natural environment, and you made some good friends there. So, where have you moved to? Would love to see the area. BTW JP, you look good in black! Nice earrings, Amelia! Everything is more expensive in the States, including food, rent and gas. Gun violence has increased, too.
