Does Eating Mangoes Intensify Marijuana's High?

I answer a viewer’s question and examine the science behind the marijuana/mango/myrcene connection in this video, plus give …

  1. No success on my end from eating fresh mangos, though I live a long way from where mangos grow, so maybe it's degraded in shipping.

However, dried mangos used in an oil infusion did seem more potent (a lot more potent).
    Here's my method.

6oz de-carbed flower (Indica, white widow, outdoor soil-grown) immersed in 900ml MCT oil (I use the "Wild MCT" brand), split evenly across two 750ml beakers, on an unheated stir-plate for 12 hours with a tablespoon each of sunflower lectin and 1Tbsp honey added to each beaker (to help emulsify non-oil soluble compounds).

In one I added 30g dried, powdered mango (organic, sun-dried) and 30g dried German Chamomile along with the de-carbed cannabis. In the other batch, no other herbs were added.

After the 12 hour stir time was up, they were strained (I used a cheese-cloth lined potato ricer for straining), and used to fill 00 Gelcaps.

The Mango-chamomile infused capsules were a lot stronger, but I don't know how much of that was from the mango, the chamomile, some combination of the two, etc. But the same process was followed with the same batch of buds. Those additions were the only variable. However, it was not my intent to study this, I only split it up because I didn't want to gamble the whole batch by experimenting with additives, so my controls were not perfect. I also don't claim this was the effect of any specific terpenes, I have no way to measure that. This is purely anecdotal.

In the mango-chamomile batch, onset is faster. Since these are ingested capsules, it normally takes me about 90 minutes to feel anything, this batch however hit in 30-45 minutes. Again, not a scientific analysis, eating carbs before taking a pill can cut the time as well, but I got a few hundred capsules, and without timing it, I can say the mango-chamomile batch did consistently hit sooner. I didn't notice any increase in the sedative effect between the two, but the silk-foot effect was stronger, and it seemed to last a little longer.

I do make my capsules fairly weak. You can always take a couple more capsules to increase the effects, no need to make it super strong, not every situation you would use them in calls for getting baked, sometimes a light dose is better. But if anyone copies my recipe, just keep that in mind. 1 Cap is like a mild anti-depressant, no physical high at all. 2 and you get relaxed, anti-anxiety mild body-high. 3-4 starts becoming sedative. Your mileage may vary.

    On a scale of 1 to 10:
1 = a rambunxious night of experimentation at Mormom Bible Camp with a bag of mostly oregano
10 = strong enough to summon the ghost of Jerry Garcia

The plain cannabis oil is a 4.0
    The Mango-chamomile oil is 4.5 – 5.0

With a direct comparison between the two, the difference is day and night. But within the context of the whole spectrum of potency and effect, it's just a little bit different. It's important to have the right expectation.

  2. Ahhh I was wondering why after eating so many mangoes made me feel happy. Been this way since I grew up in the Island. I never made the connection. I stacked up and I eat at least 2 a day.
