Melbourne’s CBD remains ‘a depressing place’ after pandemic

Although it was once voted the “world’s most liveable city”, Melbourne is now a “shadow of its former self,” according to Sky News …

  1. PERHAPS THIS REPORTER SHOULD GO AND VOLUNTEER TO HELP PEOPLE WITH ADDICTION PROBLEMS TO GIVE HER AN “OPEN MIND” TO THE SICK AND SUFFERING INSTEAD OF IGNORANCE!

  2. Also does she realize that that "drug injecting facility" is a tried and true method for reducing overdose's in drug users in many other places? Honestly what a heartless bitch. Does she think that it's encouraging drug use that wouldn't be happening behind the scenes regardless? She just wants junkies to die out of the public eye rather than get help that they need.

  3. So she basically said that bike people are too poor to shop at nice places? This automotive industry shill should move to Europe and see how thriving economies and pedestrian/ bike centric policies are actually compatible.

  4. It's had the heart ripped out of it. All the little gems you remember are gone with for lease signs everywhere. Many familiar arcades and buildings no longer… just a big wall and gantry to scurry by as you cover your ears to the sound of heavy machinery. Melbourne is paradise for developers and construction workers and hell for anyone else.

  5. It was crowded, dirty and run down before Covid. Years of Labor mismanagement have turned it from a beautiful European garden City, into a pro development concrete ghetto. It's disgusting. With the people gone, you can see it for what it is.

  6. This is complete BS. Melbourne is thriving. I work and live in Melbourne CBD! Sky News/Murdoch will stop at nothing to keep wishing Melbourne has been destroyed. It's hilarious

  7. Panahi you are a fraud. Melbourne has bounced back beyond expectations. The streets are full and the cafes, pubs and clubs are all open. Stop trying to bring Melbourne down you depressing Murdoch puppet.

  8. WRONG!! This is what happens to a bunch of pansies naming themselves a Council, but following orders from Rockefeller and Klaus Schwabb.
Who gives a crap about Victorians? Certainly NOT Victorians these days!

  9. No matter how people access a destination, by car or bicycle, when a place has been shut down for a long time, people realise that they just don't need to go there anymore. There are plenty of places to go, closer to home.

This is a chance to replan Melbourne over the long term. Less people equals more room for more green spaces, for a start. But more car access equals more parking space requirements – with access still only gained via already congested roads (pre covid).

  10. I don't know about this. I've been in the CBD a fair bit lately. Fed Square full of people. Pathways and public transport packed and bars along the yarra full. Using old videos?

  11. BAN CARS PAST SPRING-LATROBE-FLINDERS, USE THE FREETRAM OR GOD FORBID, BURN A FEW CALORIES ON YOUR WAY TO EAT DEAD BODIES (MEAT) AND DRINK POISON(ALCOHOL).

  12. How many bikers are voters / shoppers ?
Guess the residents will have to travel out of the city on their toy scooters to eat out.
    Baltimore USA 2.0 👹👹💩💩

  13. People want to arrive in places with Thier hair not a mess, not sweating and stressed from the journey of traffic jams and truck exhausts. People are weird.

  14. Those bike lanes are appearing everywhere across the country, even in my area south of Sydney. Your correct. Not only is it dangerous but ive not seen a single bike use them.
