No immediate changes recommended for Marathon County’s marijuana laws | Top Stories

WAUSAU, Wis. (WAOW) — Changes likely are not coming to Marathon County’s marijuana policies.

Two county committees are now recommending no changes be made, including a decision made Wednesday by Health and Human Services.

What had been discussed was lowering the citation for offenders to a set rate of $50, which was ultimately scrapped.

The low number of felony possession charges in the county also factored into the decision.

“Nothing about this change that was proposed was going to make a difference as far as relief for what’s already being done,” said Theresa Wetzsteon, the county’s district attorney.

She also expressed concern about a “one size fits all” approach the proposed changes could create.
