Ghaziabad: A man was arrested on Thursday for allegedly smuggling marijuana from Odisha to NCR. Police have also seized 300 kg of marijuana worth Rs 45 lakh and a truck from his possession. This is the second such case in a week. On May 18, the city police nabbed three people for allegedly smuggling marijuana from Andhra Pradesh and Odisha to NCR. At least 243 kg of marijuana worth Rs 40 lakh was recovered from their possession.
The person arrested on Wednesday has been identified as Veeru Singh, a resident of Aligarh. Acting on a tip-off, he was caught from Masuri. βHe had come in a truck and hid the NDPS item in garbage bags which were kept inside the vehicle,β said SP (crime) Diksha Sharma.
During questioning, Singh told police that he was a part of the gang whose kingpin was Nishu Kumar. He too belonged to Aligarh.
Singh has been booked under sections 8 and 20 of the NDPS Act, 1985.
