SHELDON—A 34-year-old Steubenville, OH, man was arrested about 4:20 p.m. Friday, May 20, in Sheldon on charges of public intoxication and first-offense possession of a controlled substance — marijuana.

The arrest of David Douglas Murtaugh stemmed from a report of him setting up a tent in the ditch along Highway 18 near Crossroads Travel Plaza, according to the Sheldon Police Department.

Murtaugh had impaired balance, slurred speech and the odor of an alcoholic beverage.

He said he had been drinking and had a small open bottle of Fireball Cinnamon Whisky in his pocket, according to the incident report.

A search was conducted after he was arrested for public intoxication, and a small container of marijuana was found.
