An associate of the disgraced former mayor of Fall River will spend three years on probation and forfeit more than $80,000 for his role in a scheme to use mayoral powers to extort marijuana vendors.
David Hebert, 57, of Westport, conspired with former Mayor Jasiel Correia II to extort a prospective pot shop owner for donations to the mayor’s campaign in return for help securing a license to sell cannabis.
Herbert was sentenced in U.S. District Court on Tuesday, more than a year-and-a-half after he pleaded guilty to one count of extortion conspiracy, one count of extortion and one count of lying to federal investigators.
