Cheers from Down Under. Just smashed out my first batch, Primo👏. Been professing the virtues of hemp for over 30yrs and just made my first paste as seeds are becoming more available here. Yummo, it has that fresh nuttiness to it. Split the mix and added about 1/4 choc tahini paste and made a wicked hemp choc spread too.🍻
adding water will make not butter, but something akin to heavy cream. And I agree with you, adding oil is both stupid and a great way to lose all the benefits of the hemp. I make hemp butter, using hemp seed kernels, in my vitamixer, on medium speed, and I don't have to scrape the side… and it is smooth enough to put it in my tea… and dissolves with hardly any nut-remains.
Can I just use water instead of oil? im not a fan of using oil for consuming so i was wondering if i could do this with water or just put it in the blender for five minutes?
I have used hemp protein before but not Manitoba Harvest and it didn't mix well or taste that great. Last week I was in Costco and tried the Manitoba Harvest hemp hearts at one of those many sample carts they have throughout the store …and bought a pack. I am using the recommended 3tbsp in my morning shake. I find I have to sweeten it. I use stevia and so far so good. The protein powder looks good, I will try it too. I'm looking for more hemp recipes. I will definitely try the hemp butter recipe too. Thank you. Oh, I wonder if I can use your discount coupon at Costco?
Hi Brian ~ You would have to heat the hemp oil above 350 degrees to change the nutritional properties of the hemp oil. The reason we say five minutes is because the hemp seeds and the hemp oil needs to mix together to form a paste – it can be quite thick if it's not mixed for long enough. But please, play around with the duration of the mixing to what suits you best. 🙂
Hi Brian ~ Hemp Oil's nutritional value only decreases if heated about 350F. A Vitamix does not get this hot. 5 minutes is just our suggestion for our desired creamy texture. By all means play around with the amount of time in the Vitamix to your liking. (For example – If you feel comfortable only blending for a minute and mixing this works too.) Thanks for your comment!
5 Minutes in the Vitamix is a bit crazy considering the amount of heat you would be creating. I think the heat would be detrimental to the nutritional value of the hemp harts. I have done similar nut butter stuff on the vatamix with a bit more oil and using the tamper tool producing the final product in less than 1 1/2 minutes, which significantly reduces the amount of heat generated.
Why don't you make it anymore to sell?
Beautiful, thank you
Thank you so much

1 C hemp hearts
2 Tbsp Hemp oil
Blend on high (vitamix) for 5 minutes – scrap sides – may need more oil!
Store in Fridge!
