BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2022 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A Boca Raton woman says she uses prescription Marijuana so had no idea what she was doing when she stole more than $1000 worth of clothes from Saks Fifth Avenue at Boca Raton’s Town Center Mall. She also apparently has no memory of removing the security tags from the clothes she placed into her bag before walking out of the store. Luckily for her, however, Saks Security has a photographic memory. The theft was apparently all caught on tape.
Susan Stone, 78, of 10152 Spyglass Lane in West Boca Raton — in the Stonebridge Country Club — was arrested Monday evening by Boca Raton Police after she was allegedly observed in the “Modern” Department by Saks Loss Prevention officers who witnessed the theft on surveillance cameras.
This is the narrative of the arrest filed by Boca Raton Police, and obtained by BocaNewsNow.com. We note that “W1” means “Witness 1.”
“W1 stated on the above date just prior to calling BRPD, she observed a white female, later identified as Susan Stone, in the “modern department” via CCTV. W1 observed Susan select two (2) shirts and then conceal them inside of a purse. W1 maintained constant visual surveillance as Susan then walked to the women’s bathroom.
After Susan exited the bathroom, Sak’s employees found five (5) tags for shirts that have been removed in the trash. W1 coordinated with other employees as Susan began walking towards the valet entrance. W1 continued visual surveillance as Susan passed all points of sale without attempting payment and exited the store. After exiting the store, Susan was apprehended and escorted to the loss prevention office to await for BRPD. Once inside of the office, W1 recovered a total of five (5) women s shirts (Total value: $1,014.80). W1 provided me with a receipt for the items and video footage which were placed into BRPD Evidence.
I then met with Susan inside of the office. I read Susan her Miranda warnings which she stated she understood. Post Miranda, Susan confessed to stealing the items that were recovered. Susan stated that she did not realize what she was doing due to using her prescribed marijuana. Based on the above investigation, Susan was placed under arrest for one (1) count of Grand Theft pursuant to FSS 812.014 (2c1) . I placed Susan in handcuffs which were double locked after checking for tightness. I transported Susan to BRPD for processing and she was later turned over to the PBC Jail.“
This is not Susan Stone’s first run-in with the law. She plead guilty earlier this year to parking in a handicapped space. She paid a “civil penalty” according to the Palm Beach County Clerk of Courts.
In the Saks matter, Stone was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail just before 8 p.m. on Tuesday and released on $3,000 bond early Wednesday morning. We note the bond is nearly three times the value of the clothes that she allegedly stole.
