  1. Another really good video. Great job. I like that you explained the importance of staying calm yourself, and keeping the bird in a calm quiet environment. It's so important. I'd probably add that keeping them warm; a little over 20*C (68*F) is important too. For very young birds, I put a wind-up, ticking watch in a sock in the box with them which mimics the heartbeat of another bird for them to cuddle up to. It helps to reduce the stress in young birds, I find. Not so much with adult birds, though.

I used to use hydrogen peroxide with my birds, but have now switched almost exclusively to antiseptic powder for cuts and abrasions after cleaning the area with weak, warm iodised saline water. I do this because it dries any blood and helps the wound heal in a dry environment, helping prevent any fungal infections or weeping sores. It also can be 'preened out' of the feathers when the bird is feeling better, doesn't sting and doesn't require touching the actual wound.

I live a long way from any vets, so I also keep Oxymav B (or similar) broad-spectrum antibiotic powder for the livestock which I also use on the parrots for deeper cuts, either in the drinking water, or even topically, mixed with the antiseptic powder. I find the powder keeps a lot longer than liquid in storage, especially after its been opened. Thanks so much for the video. Really informative and well explained.

  2. What a terrible experience. Good that you were able to remain calm. She may also have some nausea from the antibiotics. Poor little bird. Keep us informed on how sheโ€™s doing.๐Ÿ˜Š

  3. Wow, I appreciate this so much. I wish Iโ€™d seen this two weeks ago. My male cape parrot began chewing his feet. It escalated way more quickly than I could have imagined. Now he is recovering with a wrapped foot, just finished a course of antibiotics, and is much more comfy. The tinks CBD oil was really the game changer for him during this time. It was so scary! my vet said she sees four other capes in my area and every single one has chewed their toes and in one case a whole foot off. No lost toes for mine (so far) but have you heard of this??? You were the first person I thought of when she told me that. She said she used to see it in amazons many years ago but now exclusively in capes. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ
