The Pomfret Town Board this month approved a law governing state-licensed cannabis dispensaries in the town.
The board passed the law by a 3-0 vote, without comment, at its October meeting.
Town Attorney Jeffrey Passafaro put together the law, at the direction of the town board. The measure contains numerous restrictions on any dispensaries that might come to Pomfret. Some of the restrictions include:
¯ They can’t be within 500 yards of any residence, school, child care center, playground, park, athletic field (or anywhere else kids commonly congregate), or place of worship.
¯ Each cannabis establishment must get a special use permit from the town.
¯ Businesses can’t have any sign, ad or display which “utilizes graphics related to marijuana or marijuana paraphernalia, or symbols related to marijuana” visible from public right-of-ways.
¯ Dispensaries must be ventilated to the degree that “no odor … can be detected by a person with a normal sense of smell” outside the buildings.
¯ Hours of operation for cannabis establishments are restricted to Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m.
¯ No cannabis establishment can be located in a car, truck, van, bus, trailer or cargo container.
¯ Drive-through and drive-in services are prohibited.
