I guess the Chinese have known about the body getting stronger when challenged for over a thousand years or so. Certainly hitting the head to make the skull thicker was a part of building fitness. I suspect however, that more hits that were not as extreme as to cause concussion would work better overall than fewer more violent hitting. I also suspect that the structures that act to cushion the brain might be increased by agitation as well.
