I was once in hospital at the same time as an elderly pastor whose diocese included some of the downtown areas in Edmonton. We were discussing some of the crap that went on in the area and he informed me that during that time he had many instances of battered women whose partners got drunk and beat the hell out of them. He went on to say that in all the time he was there he never had a women tell him that her partner smoked up and became abusive.
