Our first furbaby was a cocker spaniel…On her 1st birthday we fed her lean ground round and rice as a treat. About 10 minutes after she just stood there like a statue not moving, with eyes glazed. Later we realized this had been her 1st seizure. Her first gran mal happened while she was in bed with us and she went totally catatonic and we thought she had passed. It was terrible. Went to the vet (In the mid 1980's) and Dr said unless she was actively seizing he could not say without doubt that she was epileptic. ( no mri available at the time)She was on phenobarbital for about 4yrs but kept getting these recurrent ear Infections. OK clean ears more often and treat the yeast infections….until my vet said. Let me send you to Dr Michael Groh. He is a animal allergist specialist. Long story short, did an allergy scratch test, allergic to fleas but then did a food elimination trial and we experienced projectile diarrhea with rice, and most any regular protein available at the time. (Didn't have the designer food choices we have now.) So I cooked her boiled eggs, rabbit meat off the carcus, and strawberries and a type of baby formula. Finally they started to produce canned dog food that rabbit was the only protein. I was so happy to not have to debone rabbits. Then they developed a kibble with rabbit. I literally cried…I know this has been a long story and science has caught up with our animals special dietary needs but even if this might help one beloved furry kid I had to share. I felt bad that my cocker spaniel was on phenobarbital for those years unnecessarily but was so grateful when we got answers. Thank goodness for science and the paws in our hearts.
Some people who are born with seizures and some dogs are born with seizures too, some one hit a pregnant woman or a pregnant dog in the stomach it can cause a puppy to have a seizure just like that
My dog had seizures it ended up being bath and body works wallflowers plugins and fragrances making him sick. They are poison. Do not buy!! I almost lost my dog.
I had a few dogs who would get seizures. I would put a pillow under their head, and rub a cold rag up and down their side. Talked to them like they were "just sad" and would tell them "it's okay, momma's here, good baby, I know it hurts" and lay down with them. Idk why, but it somehow helped and made the seizure not be so intense after a minute, or helped slow it down a bit faster.
My family dog growing up was a toy poodle. He started having seizures after getting out and being struck by a car. His seizures were controlled with medication fortunately. No matter how often you see a seizure it's always scary. I always remember our little dog would act so afraid when he'd come out of a seizure, as if he thought he'd done something bad. We'd give him lots of love to assure him everything was okay.
My sweet toy poodle had seizures. It was so scary. He was so frightened when it happened. I’d gently hold him until it was over. He’d be tired after and just sleep. Oddly enough we moved from Seattle to Alabama and the seizures were way less. He lived a nice long life. I was devastated when he died, in his sleep of old age.
One of my mom's dogs called Ulla did that one day when she was 14 years old. She died the next day.. I saw her body on the floor infront of the front door after coming back from High school. I couldnt stop crying.
i have a mini aussie named bear :,(
You shouldn’t hold or touch a person or animal when they are having a seizure
An MRI is €2,500 here in Ireland , I can't afford that , not many cud. It's heart breaking
My God, poor Bear. My dog has the exact same , EXACT SAME seizures as bear, I'm heart broken 😥
Dogs shouldn’t have seizures ever

Watching with my loves and crying. I can’t imagine seeing this in person. I would be hysterical 😭
I'm just glad she has the best care possible ❤
Juv epilepsy is hereditary in Aussies, but don't know how old her dog is
Gosh girl you’ve had the worst luck with your pets. This is the second time you’ve had stuff happen with a pet isn’t it?
