I regrettably decided to try the keto diet to lose weight and when I got my physical done 7 months into the diet, my cholesterol went through the roof! My doctor told me not to go eating a lot of carbs right away so I swapped out my two egg breakfast for a smoothie made of 1 serving of Nutiva hemp protein powder, 1 small banana, 1 tbl chia seed and 12oz unsweetened almond milk.
My lunch at noon would be my homemade flax bread. It's a simple recipe with 3 tbl ground flax, 1 heaping tsp of extra fine almond flour, 1/4 tsp baking powder, a couple pinches of salt and 4 tbl liquid egg whites from a carton. Mix everything up well in a rectangular dish. I sprinkle a little everything but the bagel seasoning and microwave for a min, then toast for 5 min. I love it with nova salmon, sliced tomato, onion and cucumbers with some light cream cheese.
Dinner is veggies, lean protein, a whole grain and dessert like a piece of sugar free chocolate, or a small serving of fruit. I ended up not gaining any weight back, in fact, I lost another 10 lbs and to my shock when I had my blood work done for an upcoming medical procedure, my cholesterol dropped 60 points into normal range. Blood pressure went from 130/90 to 116/70. It only took 2.5 months for me to get these results.
I keep to the same breakfast and lunch every day. If I wake up starving, I eat the flax bread for breakfast. It keeps me so full, that by the time I make the smoothie, I usually only have 3 hours until dinner! When I get bored of the smoothie, I make hemp protein powder pancakes. When I get tired of nova salmon, I top the bread with 2 slices ham, a slice of cheese and a fried egg OR smashed avocado and egg. I love not having to think too much about what I am eating during the day. I have a ton of variety with my dinner, eating 2 cups of veggies, starch, lean protein, and dessert every day.
doesnt chia expand? Ive seen soaking some chia in water before you eat and it blows up huge? I tried just eating it and i felt bloaty after eating. Also, the chia "expands" greatly and actually can choke on it. Try it out, put a couple tablespoons in a bowl and add equal water. Let it sit, put in fridge. Its like rice, watch it massively grow and expand all the water. Now imagine thta in your body. I put them in water prior and let them absorb to where they wont absorb anymore..
Each morning I grind one tablespoon each of: Pumpkin, Flax, Chia seeds, plus 2 Tblsp. Hemp hearts, (grind them in my electric coffee grinder for several seconds) then add four heaping tablespoons of homemade apple sauce (apples, lemons & cinnamon, dried berries, no sugar) Mix all the ground seeds into the sauce and… breakfast!
Dr Ann, I have been following your make it happen Monday video’s first a couple years but have a hard time putting it all into practice. This new program looks amazing. I deal with lots of inflammation and strange autoimmune symptoms that baffle my doctors . Finally started an online/group support frugivore plan with a local doctor. Seeing some “results” but hard to know as the inflammation comes and goes – like a week my hands are bad then my feet etc so hard to evaluate real long term change/healing. May I ask your thoughts on a frugivore plan?
Is it not better to purchase whole flax seeds, and grind them just prior to consumption, to avoid them oxidizing and their oil becoming rancid?
I eat all three daily
How many times a day should we have this?

Chia absorbs water 8 times it’s size if you eat with little water you get constipated.

I started using flaxseed and chia seeds though I am experiencing bloating and it's quite uncomfortable.
Love, love the dessert idea! Thank you, Ann!
I have heard that the seeds need to be ground because if you swallow them whole there is not real nutritional value. Is this necessary?
Excellent advice!
