It helped the state to get their police/agency foot in the door when dealing with "troublesome" groups in society. Like if suspected to be a Communist used to be and breaking copyright was just recently.
Anyway in the digital today the state got much more than their foot in the door when it comes to just about everything to do with the citizens, so they don't need these old tools so much anymore.
Wow…this series is great. Liking the separate episodes for comments…should also mention the smear ran by William Randolph Hearst…because hemp was way too useful (even hundreds of years ago on ships…), he had to protect his business. Way too much science behind cannabis to type about…like the hundreds of molecular permutations like you talked about, or the myriad of receptors in different parts of the brain, bones, etc.. Keep up the conversation!
About state law overriding federal law… it doesn't. Marijuana is still illegal on a federal level and anyone using it or possessing it, even if it's been legalized by the state, could be prosecuted on a federal level. This hasn't happened because the executive branch of the federal government has basically said "yeah, it's against the law but we don't care about enforcing that particular law under these circumstances right now." So, it's illegal but nobody was going to enforce it. Now there's been a change in the executive branch so that could all change.
You missed mentioning one of the most damning comments about weed and the war on drugs vis-a-vis targeting. Nixon's domestic policy chief John Ehrlichman is on record with this statement:
"We knew we couldn't make it illegal to be either against the war or black, but by getting the public to associate the hippies with marijuana and blacks with heroin. And then criminalizing both heavily, we could disrupt those communities. We could arrest their leaders. Raid their homes, break up their meetings, and vilify them night after night on the evening news. Did we know we were lying about the drugs? Of course we did."
Legalize it already… The negative effects of THC can be treated by CBD mostly and CBD hast like literally no negative effects at all! That is if you're not prone to i.e. psychosis. But if it was legal, you could actually develop tests to see if you're endangered or not.
I'm helping myself with Weedborn CBD. I think this is the best medicine.

It's refreshing listening to how slowly you talk. I'm so used to the science shows speaking so quickly that it's nice being able to understand you
this channel really needs more views!
keep up the good work 🙂

It's stunning how few people know about this.
