I try to get my 11 year old to bed earlier. But he refuses. I feel helpless. He is dealing with neurodiversity and it is so hard to teach him about health. He doesn't want to hear it. He doesn't want to watch a movie on the topics. He also refuses to take his supplements at night at times and now it is almost 11pm,we got into a huge fight and of course that doesn't help him sleeping either. š¢ what to do with a very strong-willed child that just doesn't go to bed if he doesn't feel he's tired. I can see it though very clearly.
Many spicy topics. Amazing live!!!! I'm not a mom but I will never stop speaking this truth. I've been told all sorts of things but I don't care. Children are the future and we need to protect them š
I will say Iām not sure how I feel about squashing a late teens desire to try and exhibit some independence from control of their parents just because they are financially dependent on us though.
I recommend looking up a childrenās book called āStella Noctella: The night time princessā. It shows the trauma caused to some children when parents enforce strict early bedtimes. I think it would be educational for some parents to read as well, since thereās a terrible misunderstanding by some parents. āGoodā sleep can occur at any time of the day/night. Kids (or adults for that matter) could get a better sleep if they are allowed to go to bed when tired and wake up when theyāre finished sleeping. Thereās no point forcing a kid to bed at 8-9pm if theyāre going to lie there staring at the ceiling for hours until their bodyās natural sleep time, and then be woken up early before theyāve had enough sleep. This is a sure way to become sleep deprived.
Im guess your not a fan of self directed learning and parenting style of Unschooling. We even Worldschooled for 2 years traveling to 8 counties, I loved it so much. If I were being honest, Iām not so sure she loved it as much as me with moving around so much. Youāre spot on about everything so Iām taking all this to heart and rethinking some things.
