In December 2003, Health Canada banned all products containing the medicinal herb comfrey (Symphytum spp.) because of reports that it contains liver damaging compounds called pyrrolizidines. However in 2004 Health Canada clarified the ban. They say that only two species of Symphytum are banned, S. asperum and S. x uplandicum; while the common comfrey, Symphytum officinale, and other species are not banned. Health Canada indicates that the pyrollizidine alkaloid, echimidine, is at the centre of their concerns and that comfrey products must be free of it. As a result, users must remain weary and ensure you are using the correct type of comfrey and/or ensure your provider uses the proper type.
I don't suggest a ban, but just aware that damage can be done. IMO, articles like this one need disclaimers if they are to be taken seriously.
Great video, thank you. Very useful. It would be great if Sofia could explain how to dry plants properly, because all we can find is very dark dried comfrey leaves. Not a beautiful vibrant green colour like in this video. I believe that the colour of dried plants is also sign of their quality. Lower quality ingredients can not give such a powerful medicine.
I have been buying the salves from your friends shop…THEY WORK! Better than I could put into words. Thank you so much for this information. I have passed on her shop's information to others who could benefit from these products. Such a blessing and a priceless help. ❤❤❤
I want to follow your recipe to make my own salve but i dont have a digital scale to measure out 0.1 oz of comfrey powder. Could you give me an estimate of how much powder i should use in terms of measuring cups? In the video im guessing its between 1/3 & 1/2 cup but its really hard to tell, thanks
Love this format, showing both the plant outdoor and preparation in the lab/kitchen, as well as all the great information and in such a concise package. I will be diving into the rest of the channel now, subscribed!
Comfrey propagation: Years ago I had a comfrey plant for medicinal purposes. My dad ran over it with a roto-tiller to clear that land area. I was so mad. Until Next year I saw that it turned into around a dozen comfrey plants. 😀 It's called root division. 😉
I made comfrey salve today, next one will be with powder. I didn't know about powder, in my pure opinion this way probably is much better, all goodness stay there. I forgot to say, thank you for this video. ❤🥰
My first time visiting your page, and fall in love with the simplicity of your remedies but very well effective. I already shopped for this comfrey cream for my mother who lives in Puerto Rico. She. Always complaints about her painful hips. She's going to be 91 years old this coming Saturday. Thank you for doing such a great channel and helping those interested in natural healing. ❤🙏❤
God bless your family too🙏♥️. Hello from the UK 🇬🇧. I've broken my ankle 🐶🐾🐕 dog walking . I had no Comfrey so used my Plantain herb 🌿 oil. It helped with the pain and I am drinking plantain herb 🌿 water, which also helps. The swelling has gone down after two half days. I've also made myself a beetroot, orange, blueberry 🫐, pomegranate, grape, apple and Japanese Knotweed smoothie. The Knotweed smoothies cured my Asthma. (I don't always use beetroot as it's a strong medicinal plant). I was Asthmatic for 48 years. 57 years old now and totally drug free. ♥️
I love Plantain it's such a wonderful pain relief for things like this. I am guessing Comfrey helps with pain too?
I've just received some Comfrey oil. I wished I had foraged for it before it died back in the garden. Lesson learned.
Thank you for all the wonderful true health stories. I love listening 🎧 to real life stories such as these. It really warms my heart and gives hope. God's plants heal. 🙏
Im just making a comfrey infusion …to make a balm wondering whats the difference between methods ?as your method is alot easyer if same outcome occurs maybe ill save myself the effort and just add powder to olive oil?
That looks wonderful, thanks. Could you perhaps tell us what Comfrey plant you use, because there are apparently many varieties. Also, how do you get the dried leaves to be such a fine powder? Thank you so much.
God is such a wonderful God. He created herbs for our healing, even Hezekiah in the bible used a poultice made out of figs and he was healed. Can this product be shipped to the tropical island of Trinidad & Tobago?
I’ve been making a poultice out of comfrey leaves, root and powder mixed with castor oil for a ruptured tendon in my ankle. 👍🏽 Has anyone else tried this?
what is the shelf life of this salve? I haven't used powder directly in oil and beeswax before and was told to filter out the herbs to prevent it from going bad sooner. I wonder if this method has a shorter shelf life because of the plant matter .
Read through the comments, would just like to state that moderation is key. There's many of medicines on the shelfs because much more damage in a shorter period of time. The Amish here drink comfrey in a smoothie blend, but they don't drink or consume it daily, one a week or maybe once a month… Moderation is key, many things can become bad if you're using it daily.

Mainstream medicine for decades has conducted a smear campaign against this herb. That should tell you something.
