Evidently, cannabis dispensaries and consumption sites will be allowed in the city of Jamestown.
On Wednesday, Anthony Dolce, Jamestown City Council president and Ward 2 councilman, told The Post-Journal the council will not be holding a public hearing or voting on a local law to opt out of allowing marijuana dispensaries and consumption sites in the city.
“The biggest reason is the time constraint. We don’t have the time to hold a public hearing, a voting session, a possible veto and then a possible override. We would never be able to get all of that done by the end of the year,” he said.
The state deadline is Dec. 31 for municipalities to opt out of allowing pot dispensaries and consumption sites.
Dolce said the council had waited this long with hopes state officials would have more information and regulations on cannabis dispensaries and consumption sites, which hasn’t happened.
“There was the possibility the state was going to push the deadline (for opting out) past Dec. 31, but that never happened,” he said.
