Bay City testing facility ensures cannabis safety | News

BAY CITY, Mich. (WJRT) – With the cannabis industry in full swing in mid-Michigan, safety standards are key to both distributors and consumers.

There has been an influx of cannabis stores popping up all around, with that, it’s important to understand the product and to make sure that what is being purchased, is safe.

That’s exactly what Therapeutic Health Choice does, with scientists and chemists doing rigorous testing to these products on a day-to-day basis and making sure that it is safe for consumer use.

Heavy metals. Pesticides. Mildew. Even insects. That is just a few of the contaminants that can make cannabis harmful, if not toxic, to someones health.

Cannabis safety compliance facilities like Therapeutic Health Choice in Bay City are focused on making sure it’s safe through extensive scientific analysis.

“What we do is help make sure that the growing cannabis industry is safe and everyone can know what they consume is free of toxins,” said Andrew Kirtek, scientist at Therapeutic Health Choice.

The testing process literally happens under a microscope and ensures that no non-marijuana material is present,  even things like glass and metal fragments, and to make sure the cannabis on the market isn’t dangerous, key in a rapidly growing industry where it has been legalized in many states.

“We just want to make sure no patient is ever harmed from marijuana,” said Richard Middlebrook, scientist at Therapeutic Health Choice.” It is still a federally Schedule 1 drug, so we want to make sure we’re doing our due diligence because if something were to ever happen in this industry the whole thing could come apart.”

That due diligence includes not only screening for things like mold, yeast, mercury, lead, and arsenic of marijuana and marijuana infused products, but also, measuring potency so people can consume without any adverse interactions.

“It’s good for individuals to know that and I think a lot of people in Michigan, it has opened up their mind to seeing it highly regulated and tested and becoming a little more open to potentially seeing if it could alleviate some of their symptoms or help them in any way,” said Nicki Legacy, Director of Business Development at Therapeutic Health Choice.

With the cannabis industry continuing to grow, rigorous testing is more important now than ever.
