Summit Academy student accused of bringing marijuana, airsoft gun, knife and alcohol to school

WAYNE COUNTY, Mich. – An 18-year-old student is facing charges after a teacher at Summit Academy North High School in Romulus found a “suspicious backpack,” which sent the school into lockdown.

Police said the backpack was reported on May 17 at 9:24 a.m. and contained marijuana, an airsoft gun, a knife and alcohol. When Huron Township police officers arrived at the school they were informed the backpack belonged to an 18-year-old student.

The student has been identified as Ra’Kai Joshua Edmonds, of Taylor, and he is now facing charges. He has been charged with one count of possession of marijuana on school property, one count of possession of an automatic weapon and one count of possession of a weapon in a weapon-free school zone.

He was arraigned Thursday (May 19) in the 34th District Court and given a $20,000/10% bond with a GPS tether. He is not allowed to have any contact with the high school and not allowed to use drugs or alcohol.
