Hi. In today’s episode, we look at the state of mental health care in the U.S., why mental health is always used as a scapegoat after …

  1. I will post the same that in another video, although your examination of the topic is way more realistic than many opinions i have seen.
I seriously doubt the mental health crisis that everybody seems so supportive of will make anything good or at minimum better for us neurodivergent people. I have been different since i was 9. And in 40 years i haven't got a clear diagnosis. I have told to be on the spectrum of functional autism, other times i have been told i have post traumatic stress induced neurosis, anxiety and depression, other times i been told that is borderline personality disorder with psychosis. In 40 years i haven't had a clear answer. You know why? Maybe cause science and society are still not there. But maybe also for the lack of deep research, support structures for neuroatypical people, and real care from both society and science. Is like diabetes. Im diabetic since i was 12 and i have heard like 10 times that they found a cure, that this time was real. Just to slip away while big pharma makes fortunes of our altered livelihoods. We are not there. To pretend otherwise maybe well meaning, but sorry, is not true.
Society still does not fully accept us. The means to help are not good even in the most socially advanced countries. Sorry for the bunch of edits.

  2. I usually love SMN but I'm so tired of ppl talking out of their arses about personality disorders and other highly stigmatised mental illnesses. Please shut up about mental health until you unlearn your sanism.

Calling someone a "psychopath" or "sociopath" is calling them mentally ill because these slurs are the old terms for Anti-Social Personality Disorder and Narcissistic Personality Disorder.

I'm really tired of seeing people paint low empathy as the scurge of humanity when it is a trait of autism and some mental illnesses. If you do not understand the difference between empathy, sympathy and compassion, stfu and educate yourself.

And for the love of God stop diagnosing random people as having "low empathy" as if that's what makes them evil and as if that's a sign they're inhuman in some way.

  3. Anyone who paid any real attention to the field of psychology has known for more than a decade that the "serotonin theory" was questionable at best. I have plenty of criticisms of antidepressants, but these drugs aren't used bc they can be shoehorned in to fit the theory. They're used bc, for at least some people, they work.

Matt seems to be projecting when he claims the theory is just an excuse to peddle stuff that harms people.

  4. I just started medical school in new York and my hope is to go into psychiatry since I have family members in the field who have exposed me to the work since a young age. At the same time, I am nervous about the field becoming more and more difficult with the supply and demand mismatch. To know you are going to have less time with patients (and fewer, worse funded resources to help them with) at the very beginning of my training, years before I might ever become a doctor is really freaking me out

  5. October 10th is mental health day. People should approach their mental health issues more consciously and without fear or disdain or whatever. Maybe it's actually the first thing we should care about after eating and sleeping. Also liars or people with the dark triad traits will never care about the wellbeing of others, this is a persistent pattern and it just works this way, they shouldn't be able to control others of influence our lives in a meaningful way

  6. I wish the government would "torture" me by "forcing me" to eat some LSD… Man, that would suck. Hey, government. I have paid taxes in years. That would be awful if you decided to torture me by "forcing me" to eat dose after dose of clean, pure, government-grade LS-25… If you need my contact info, just let me know.

  7. Evangelicals have their own military training camps. They call them schools or camps but that's what they are. Tucky. Oh my, where is instant karma when you need it.

  8. This is the best video from you guys that I've seen in awhile. Thoroughly thoughtful, educational, and funny. The mid episode existential crisis had me laughing so hard that my chest hurt. And there were numerous other times I startled my cats with laughter. But I really had to pause and voice appreciation to your point of unidentified neurodivergence being a large contributor to depression or anxiety. My mental health improved vastly when I realized that I'm autistic. Because I wasn't constantly filled with confusion and dread around people, and was able to pick apart how to more effectively understand the lense that autism provides me. Thank you for your work, time, and hilarity. It's deeply appreciated ✌️

  9. Let just say that mental illness is always the reason (it's not obviously) but let's pretend it is
Funny how the far right doesn't actually want to help people with mental illness

  10. Great video. you've remind me of what someone once said đź’•The richest people in the world build networks;
everyone else is trained to look for work. There Is a difference between being poor and Being broke. I once attended seminar and ever since then I been waxing strong financially, and i most tell you the truth..

  11. I believe that most people that do shooting regardless of colour or ideology are mentally ill. Mentally ill people are more likely to be affected by extremist ideologies like religion for example.

  12. Cody SHOULD Shout-Out "Positive Leftist News", a Channel that took his Idea from
"Some Gooder News!" and ran with it, making it its Channel-Concept!! Cody knows himself he can be kinda cynical sometimes
and "Doomscrolling" is a Term for a Reason, so??

  13. Cody, I'd be careful about promoting or taking sponsorships from companies that sell or provide "carbon offsets". They are by-and-large a scam, and "save trees" that never would have been cut down in the first place.

  14. Here in Texas there are people who tell those same type of statements in regards to physical conditions.

Bleeding from a head gash? Just get a bigger bandaid and stop whining. Get sick? Tough it out and go to work anyway, you'll only spread it to people who don't pray enough.

And countless more I've personally seen someone say with a straight face.

  15. Fun Fact!!! The guy who wrote the DSM-1 didn't mean for it to be the be all and end all of mental health definitions!! Once again, a GUIDE was co-opted into being the DEFINITIVE SOURCE. Much like the lie-detector and finger-printing. Also 47:00 is why I'm pro-Constitional Monarchy: they can be the quiet guiding voice which stands up against the constantly-changing government and says, "yeah, maybe we should keep that mental health program."
