There are homeschool groups and they all get together for field trips etc. Homeschool is the way to go in this day and age. You can still have your children involved in other extra curricular activities, dance ,choir, karate, sports, etc. .
For those kids who need to learn social skills that are home schooled, can always join a martial arts class, gymnastic class, volunteer to mow the old folks' yards, join a Sunday School class. There are lots of ways to get the kids social skills developed. My kids home schooled all of their kids & every one of them are calm and collected adults who hold jobs. Mom home schooled them & Dad took them to a martial arts class during the week & the family were very active in their church.
