  1. They think they have identified the healing compound was in the plant. I have noticed that when I eat the real food I get more nutrition than I do from the supplemental pill.
Used to take 1 pill, now it's 3

  2. They did same for turmeric as well. It's pathetic how one uses loopholes, gets patent & hence rights. On the other side communities with traditional knowledge of nature remains "barbaric !"

  3. I honestly don’t use natural remedies because it can cause overdoses easily. People think if you take more it works more. Not necessarily. Nature doesn’t mean over use can’t be harmful. I need a doctor to give an appropriate dosage for my body weight, gender, and height or I won’t use it. That said this biopiracy is wrong.

  4. This made me realise Britain fundamentally has no identity or culture really beyond hunger for power, real estate/land/colony, and hierarchy ; it’s all a facade for no real identity. They have merely copy, adopt and monopolise others resources & culture, eg. tea, spices, pastry, paper, etc.

  5. We really have to deal with the root of the problem which is exploitation of people and resources. The clock is ticking with our biodiversity collapsing entirely.

  6. Counterpoint places chin on the base of both hands pointing index fingers at you
Why should I care about some tiny group of brown people in the middle of nowhere who's culture is in every measurable way that can effect me and the people I care about, a failure? All voice is derived from authority, all authority is derived from the violence that enforces it, these "tribes" thus have no voice, that is the way of the world, from the smallest ant to the largest whale, the strong survive and dominate the weak. I see no reason to even mark these failed cultures in the anals of history let alone change my lifestyle for them.

  7. "Hey, you're stealing from the sand people!"
Companies: "Don't refer to them as 'sand people', you bigot!"

In all seriousness, of course this video is more activism than journalism, but they do raise some good points. I think it's fair to say that you shouldn't be able to patent something nature has already invented, even if the indigenous people are also benefiting from this corrupt practice by sharing in the monopoly. Patenting an extraction process or formulation is understandable. An even better comparison to pre-modern history would be laws where there were certain types of animals that only the king could own, hunt, or eat.

  8. we loosing all the good old apple tree strains because the industry is making new apple strain product whis are not very good digestible for humans.
probably with all seeds and animals….

  9. Deep sea mining is destroying the largest ecosystem on Earth. These deep-sea creatures won't survive being run over, and even after the machine is done rampaging the ocean, the newly compressed seabed will prevent life from living there for thousands – if not millions – of years

  10. In case of neem oil used as fungicide, patents are not the Great Evil. Just having a patent doesn't mean you can profit all over the world from it. If your company is set in the US and you want to sell your fungicide to be used in Germany, you ask for a patent in Germany. Doesn't mean people anywhere have to suddenly stop using neem oil as a fungicide everywhere in the world. Also, it depends on what exactly you write in a patent claim. Also, patents expire.

  11. Very similar to how Chinese manufacturers learn processes and technologies through specifications and instructions given by outsourcing manufacturing. To tell someone how to make something that technological information has to be transferred otherwise it won’t be the right product. Of course that is why cheap Chinese junk never holds a candle to durable goods made in Germany Austria with the United States

  12. It's like 2 sides of a coin: the good and the bad.
The good is when we use this knowledge to improve humanity while the bad is when we take advantage of improving our share of profits.

  13. Why neglect the historical fact that EVERY empire did what they did? It's not only Spain, GB or DE… China, Persia, Egypt, native tribes – everyone did the same. And it's not only EU and NA, many companies are now owned by Korean, Chinese and Japanese conglomerates.

  14. This is why pharma wants Kratom outlawed. They're losing millions as people use it as an alternative pain med, pain maint, and anti depression. Pharma will synthecise Kratom and sell it in a pill once it's not available in U.S. to the general public.

  15. My guest : what is this
    Me : lemon juice
Guest : But why this taste weird?
Me : Because no lemon in my kitchen .. so alternate with power of 100 lemons : VIM Bar dish wash bar added to your juice

  16. Greed not global warming is the greatest threat to humanity, encouraging greed and speaking against global warming is the greatest hypocrisy of the West.
