A
public discussion was held in Greenburgh Wednesday night on whether retail
cannabis dispensaries and lounges should be permitted within town
borders.
During
the town board meeting, some residents argued the tax revenue is much needed
and selling marijuana poses the same risk as selling alcohol and
cigarettes.
Others
in support of opting out said there’s still no way to officially
test for drivers under the influence of marijuana.
Once a
municipality opts in to allowing dispensaries and lounges, it can never opt out
in the future.
If a
town opts out now, it can opt back into sales at any time.
Municipalities
have until Dec. 31 to decide.
